The USS Arizona - one of the most famous ships at pearl harbour for all the wrong reasons.

 

 

The USS Arizona had just moored with a repair ship called vestal { Ar - 4 } on the morning of December the 7th 1941 in the pearl harbour bay.

 

At 07:55 around the ford island USS Arizona raised it alarm of a upcoming attack.

 

Shortly after at 08:00 hours, Japanese aircraft from the six fleet carriers could be seen coming in the distance from the pacific. 

 

The ship went to general quarters, an enouncement that informed the crew of an attack.

 

The turrets were soon positioned & ready to fire.

 

The planes drew closer and closer ready to target the USS Arizona

 

The order has been commanded to fire

 

{ FIRE }

 

The Japanese planes dived down towards the USS Arizona { guns a blazing }

 

The turrets were now firing away making every shot count

 

But the Japanese bombers were too fast  { and at a higher quantity } , flying around the USS Arizona like a sitting duck.

 

Then one of Japanese horizontal bombers released and struck the USS Arizona with several bombs.

 

Some  of these caused damage to the midship area, but these were only minor to one bomber in particular who struck a devastating blow by damaging the ship front two main turrets, which soon lead to a massive explosion.

 

Without the bomb piecing the deck of the USS Arizona the reaction some what , reason un explained to this day caused the gun powder magazines below to go off, which caused a chain of explosions and a uncontrollable fire to arise.

 

The ship was deviated from the front of her main turrets to the back into her machinery spaces.

 

The ships sides were blown out and other turrets and much of the superstructure drooped several feet into the wrecked hull.

 

Which led to the USS Arizona becoming unstable and soon forced her into the sea.

 

Blazing with smoke and fire the USS Arizona quickly settled to the bottom of the bay, where she finally lay to rest.

 

 

A Consuming number of 1,177 lives were taken that day

 

 

A tragic loss

 

 

 

The USS Arizona then sat there at the bottom of the bay, burning away for more than two days, the remains of the wreck of the mighty ship lays there a memorial remembrances of the lives lost that never saw it coming.
